The Tampa Bay area encompasses Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota counties. With a total of 3.3 million residents, the areas population ranks number one in the state of Florida.

Formerly known as a retirement community, Tampa Bay has become an economic powerhouse. The area leads the state in the number of businesses, manufacturing employment, new business formations, effective buying power and retail sales. Tampa Bay benefits from a diversified economy, with tourism remaining at the top. With a labor force of 1.7 million and a job growth rate of 4.8%, the area has become a magnet for business relocations, expansions, Fortune 500 companies and entrepreneurs around the world. Publix Super Markets, Tech Data, Jabil Circuit, and Staff Leasing are some major companies that call Tampa Bay home.

Not only is Tampa Bay a great place to work, it is also an equally appealing place to live. The average temperature in the area is 73.4° (82° summer / 60° winter) and there is an average of 361 days of sunshine per year. The area offers 234 miles of shoreline, numerous golf courses, large marinas and plenty of arts and entertainment. Tampa Bay also benefits from a below average cost of living index. According to ACCRA, Tampa’s index score is 97 and St. Petersburg/Clearwater is 93.5 (100 is average).

Tampa Bay is well known for its excellent transportation systems:

  • Airports include Tampa International, St. Petersburg/Clearwater International and Sarasota/Bradenton International. Tampa’s airport has been designated as the finest airport in the country for 13 consecutive years.

  • Ports include the Port of Tampa, Port Manatee and the Port of St. Petersburg. The Port of Tampa is Florida’s largest seaport and handles nearly half of all sea-borne commerce that passes through the state. It is the 12th largest cargo port in the nation, and has become a major cruise port.

  • Interstate Highways include I-75, I-275 and I-4, and the Suncoast Parkway--the most recent link in the more than 400 miles of toll roads within the Florida's Turnpike system. Connecting with the Veterans Expressway in northwest Hillsborough County, the Suncoast Parkway links Hillsborough with Pasco and Hernando counties, and provides an alternative north-south route through Florida's west coast.

  • Nearly 60% of the U.S. population can be reached by overnight truck shipment.

  • Commercial rail service includes CSX Transportation, CSX Intermodal Passenger Rail Service and Amtrak
